So it was with one of the veterans, his beloved service dog, who had such an inextricable bond that when it came to his wedding day, he had to engage his dog especially.
Justin is an army veteran. He was sent to Afghanistan as a paratrooper and crashed.
However, during his recovery in the hospital, he was accompanied by a golden retriever named Gabe.
Gabe has been invaluable in helping Justin adjust to the loss of his leg.
The less he uses a wheelchair, the more he needs help with small tasks.
The dog did more than just help him. He quickly proved to be a source of emotional support and friendship.
«He’s with me all day, every day.»
The dog had a huge impact not only on Justin but also on his longtime girlfriend Carol.
«You have to make sure that the support dog is always happy and that she will always love the person she is with.» «Justin came into the room when they met, Gabe was moving and crying and rolling on the floor.»
So when Justin and Carroll got married, Gabe had to be present at the ceremony.
But while some people make their dog’s ring bearers or just guests, Justin wanted his beloved dog to be by his side on this big day.
“He goes where I go,” Justin said. “She is there to help me emotionally when I need it. Why should a wedding be different?
The bride, of course, did not mind Justin’s unique choice.
«Justin and Gabe go everywhere together, and it seemed like our wedding wasn’t for different occasions,» Carroll said. «He is a huge part of our lives and he deserves to share this moment with us.»
