This little cat was not born ordinary at all. And that’s what he’s grown into now!
A kitten named Pepino has a wonderful story about the love of life!
He’s clumsy and can’t walk in a straight line, but this little guy is perfectly happy and doesn’t want people to feel sorry for him…
When Pepino was born, he was separated from his mother cat and immediately taken to VCA Cromwell Animal Hospital where he was given oxygen to help the poor thing breathe. After many hours of intensive therapy, the little hairball came back to life!
He was still very weak, so one of the staff members took him home to continue caring for the little guy around the clock!
For many weeks, the vets weren’t sure if he would survive. The kitten was given the out-of-touch nickname «Mousey» because he looked like a tiny mouse.
As Pepino got bigger, rescuers noticed that he had trouble walking and would fall every time he tried to stand up. The kitten was born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), and this hindered his motor skills…
Despite the severe disease, the kitten was always in good spirits. All he wanted to do was play and cuddle with his guardians!
When a man named Carmelo arrived at the hospital, he saw little «Mousey» who had just taken a bath and was wrapped in a towel. «I was very surprised at how small he was. He looked at me with uncertain curiosity,» Carmelo shared.
He instantly fell in love with the tiny Pepino and that same night, he went scouring the Internet to learn all about CH cats. Carmelo was determined and wanted to provide this little buddy with the wonderful life he deserved!
As early as January, Pepino moved into his new home with his most loving and caring owner! Kitten’s actions have become much more coordinated with each passing day!
Carmelo helps the kitten eat by holding him so he doesn’t fall over. Pepito eats from a special utensil that is made of soft silicone to protect his teeth!
«Most importantly, Pepino doesn’t know he’s ‘different.’ He watches my other cats and repeats everything after them.
He loves to play, purr and climb on my lap. Pepino reaches for me with his paws as soon as he sees me. He is a very happy little pet.»
Pepino adores his «daddy» Carmelo and always wants to be where he is.
It has been two years since Pepino found his permanent home. He has grown and is stronger than ever. This beautiful cat lives a full life and feels no discomfort, because there are always those around to support him!
«I am happy to care for this gorgeous cat with special needs. It’s a commitment I was willing to make, and I haven’t regretted it for a second,» Carmelo said.
Pepino’s story proves once again that you can be imperfect, but not lose the love of life! Especially if there are those around who are ready to lend a helping hand at any moment!
