The famous blue parrot from the movie «Rio» has now officially disappeared

A new study has found that at least eight bird species have disappeared in recent years. Among them is the blue parrot, so famous from the movie «Rio».

In a successful animated film, parrots struggled to survive as Blue flew from America to Brazil to find Joel, the last female of its kind. The two fall in love and they have a child in a happy ending story. Unfortunately, these parrots did not make it in real life.

Although most of the bird extinctions took place on solitary islands, the most recent was in South America, the study found. The sharp increase in deforestation in the area has had an impact. According to the Red List of Endangered Species, about 187 birds have disappeared from the world since 1500. Reasons for this rapid decline include the introduction of invasive species, hunting, and deforestation, as evidenced by research.

Nowadays, the huge expansion of urban areas and global warming are putting a lot of pressure on wildlife, where many animals are forced to adapt or disappear.

As for the blue parrots, which have bright blue feathers, they have officially disappeared into the wild. However, some examples live in captivity.
