The couple spent 70 days nursing baby squirrels that had fallen out of the nest
It was an ordinary day at work, George was on his way to the site of a road pole repair in Denver. Suddenly he stumbled upon a completely unexpected sight: two baby squirrels lying on the ground, most likely to have fallen out of the nest. He couldn’t leave them there because if he did, the little ones would surely die.
George and his wife brought them home and started to nurse the babies. They took photos of the whole process, later they uploaded the pictures to social networks and called the series «The Squirrel Project».
The babies were named Fred and Ginger.
It turned out that raising squirrels was not so easy. In order not to harm them and do everything correctly, they had to read a lot of literature and watch dozens of videos on the Internet.
The most interesting is that the pet, a dog named Jiggs, was not indifferent and also tried to help, for example, it called the owners if the babies cried or tried to crawl somewhere.
After 30 days the white-coat cubs became stronger and they began to be accustomed to solid food.
And after another 40 days, the time came when the animals had to be released into their natural habitat.
After 70 wonderful days together, George and Patti brought Fred and Ginger to the park so they could return to their true natural home.
Parting with the squirrels wasn’t easy for the couple, it was as if they were losing a piece of their family. But they understood that they were giving the animals the freedom they needed.
