Surprising reaction of a rescue dog seeing the clear world for the first time

Like the rest of his canine buddies, Luca never understood the world around him. The world around the 4-year-old rescuer knew there was beauty in it, but it was always like a fog. If only his eyes would let him, he would take it all in and enjoy every second of it.

And Luca recently experienced that moment as a result of eye operation. For the first time in his short existence, he was able to see everything normally.

After years of poor vision, Luke underwent cataract surgery in July. By the third day of his recovery, the lovable rescuer seemed ready to return to normal — only this time he could actually see it.

Luca was accompanied by his most faithful companion, his mother, as he absorbed every detail of his new clean surroundings.

According to Schneller, after he sat in the middle of the road looking at the trees, he would walk to the curb and gaze at the river with his mouth open. «I honestly believed I understood him, that he was totally enthralled. This dog never stops moving, but for several minutes straight he just sat there and watched.»

When Animal Care Centers NYC staff took Luca in, he was homeless.

Schneller recalls that «the rescuers tried to talk me out of adopting him, believing he was too energetic and excitable, and blindness would only make things worse.» ‘ I assured them I was up to the task.»

Schneller saw Luca’s vision deteriorate as he began bumping into objects. One particular incident led to a trip to the emergency room. At that point, Schneller realized it was time for surgery.

The vet then told Schneller that Luka might need up to 7 days to see clearly.

Schneller described the dog as «an amazing dog. I have had dogs in the past, but Luca is unique. I consider him my soul mate. He is the most loving, intelligent and content puppy I have ever met.

He is kind to everyone and has introduced me to many amazing people. I adore him in a way that is hard for me to express; my love for him grows every day.
