Stray rooster accidentally walked into family home and decided to stay there
One day in early September, Chaz Sanders and her family were relaxing at home when a rooster appeared out of nowhere. Everyone was immediately perplexed.
We don’t know how he got there because we have no neighbors within about two miles, except for relatives,» Sanders said.
The rooster, later named Ronnie, kept his distance at first, but after a few days decided this was his new home and he wasn’t going anywhere.
«One morning we opened the door to let the dogs out and leave, and we looked up and he was standing in the living room,» Sanders said.
The family definitely wasn’t planning on getting a rooster, but the more they got to know Ronnie, the more they liked him. It quickly became clear that he showed up on their property that day for a reason, and that he was supposed to be here.
«I immediately fell in love with him,» Sanders says. «I grew up around animals, but I never kept birds or chickens. He follows us around like a dog and loves attention. The first few days he kept his distance and wouldn’t let us touch him, but after he came into the house, he warmed up with no problem. He practically took over and now does whatever he wants.»
Addy and Merle, the two canines of the family, soon accepted Ronnie as their new brother or sister. Now he can do whatever he wants in his new home. He prefers to make his own rules, though, rather than continually obey the house rules.
Sanders said: «He’s feisty, but totally loyal for a chick. He acts like a teenager and is a diva. He screams if he doesn’t get his own and will follow your instructions, although it may take him a few tries.»
The ceiling fan or the chandelier are two examples of sublime places where Ronnie really likes to spend time. He may act like a dog, but his true nature is to roost, and he likes to wake his family up as early as possible each morning.
Ronnie’s family decided to get some more chickens to keep him company after researching the best way to care for him. They had never kept birds before, but now that they have, they are very happy to have five.
No one knows where Ronnie came from or why he decided to wander into the yard that day. However, his new family is very happy that he found them and can’t imagine their lives without him.
«It was definitely meant to be,» Sanders says.
