Shelter workers say good night to every dog every night

The animal shelter has an area where dogs can hang out together and roam freely, just like they will when they finally find their forever home. Most of the animals in the shelter come from large, overcrowded shelters, so it’s important to create a quiet, homely environment where they can relax.

“The common area should be a replica of your normal home environment so that the dogs can live without stress and relaxation…until the day their angry family finds them, and if that day never comes, we will be that home. and family so that they can live out their last days,” said an animal shelter worker.
We hope that dogs living in a home environment will also help with the transition once they are adopted and stay in their homes forever. Everyone at the shelter tried to make the area as cozy and homely as possible, and the dogs love it.

“There is a kitchen (full of peanut butter and cheese), a laundry room (permanently open), a dog door leading to one of our four huge fenced yards, and, of course, an open living room full of dogs. beds, kennels, and donated leather sofas (they are easier to clean),” she said. “There is also a small picket fence that acts as a ‘luxury’ downstairs for dogs who might want a little more privacy or a break from the pack but don’t want to go into the kennel. We also play classical music all the time.”

It is important for everyone that the shelter feels like a home for all the animals that live there, so in a small red barn, each dog is laid down before bed, and every night he receives an individual wish good night.
“Every night we make sure to go up to every dog, wrap them up, remind them that they are safe and loved, and wish them good night,” Madden said. «Then we’ll turn off the lights and turn on the moonlight.»

The length of the good night varies depending on how many dogs are currently in the barn. If there are more dogs, each dog receives a traditional, but very sincere and cordial good night wish. If there are fewer dogs, the goodnight procedure may include a few extra steps, such as a special bedtime story.
“About Christmas time, I read a bedtime story about a pit bull named Diego, and the other day I read a poem by our longtime pit bull that one of our subscribers wrote about her wonderful story,” she said.

With this special bedtime routine, every dog ​​feels welcome and appreciated, which means so much to a shelter dog. They go to bed knowing they are so loved and wake up feeling the same.
