Salma Hayek is the first Mexican to be nominated for an Oscar and not win it. Who disrupted the beautiful celebrity!
One of the wonderful and outstanding stars in Hollywood Salma Hayek was born in a wealthy Mexican family, she has Spanish and Arabic roots. From 18, Hayek began acting in Mexican TV series. At first, the roles were small, but in 1989 the actress received a central role in the series «Teresa», after which the popularity and recognition of the public simply fell upon her. After few years, Salma starred in the film «Avenue of Miracles», the film was a real victory. Hayek firmly established herself in the position of a superstar in Mexican cinema. Only after that she decided to try her luck in Hollywood. And so she really succeeded. She became one of the well-known stars in Hollywood. Though her career was full of difficulties and obstacles she could overcome all the hardships and bright like stunning personality in the world of cinematography.
2002 was a sensational for the actress. She stared in «Frida», based on the dramatic biography of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The success of the movie was obvious, it was nominated for an Oscar in several categories at once, including the best actress. For the first time in the history of cinema, a Mexican actress was nominated for the leading American film award, she was also one of three Latin American actresses nominated for an Oscar in history.
And Hayek could rightly have received an Oscar if Stephen Daldry’s film «The Hours», an incredible drama, had not been released the same year. The film gained a huge success around the world, the director’s work was excellent, the cast was beyond praise: Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and the magnificent Meryl Streep.
And now the beautiful Australian has disrupted the beautiful Mexican. Nicole Kidman, the performer of one of the three central roles, received an Oscar. She deserved it, to be fair, as her work in the movie is fantastic.
The film «Frida», is somehow lower in status both in directing and in terms of the cast, but the work of Salma Hayek is extremely admirable and worthy. However, the Hollywood competition is huge and the fact that Hayek was nominated for an Oscar is already a great achievement.
