“Sacred white raven” is found malnourished and injured – kind man takes him to a wildlife recovery center
The North Island Wildlife Restoration Centre on Vancouver Island has had a very busy summer.
Vancouver Island had a very special guest. The young bird was given the title «sacred white raven. In May, the bird was discovered in a poor condition and brought to the center by a very kind man who spotted the poor thing by the ocean.
The raven was too skinny and could not fly.
Derek Downs is one of the doctors caring for the white raven. He explains that the bird is not a true albino because of the small amount of melanin.
However, the tiny amount of melanin causes a lot of diseases and health issues. Normally animals and birds with such a problem do not live long in the wild.
Interestingly, these mutations are only found in the Vancouver Island area. As a rule, they have a weak immune system. But this time, veterinarians are doing everything they can to save an injured raven.
In fact, they are already having some success. They are feeding the bird as he refuses to eat on his own.
They are giving him various antibiotics and vitamins, which are making a huge positive difference in the bird’s health.
Right now, the lovely bird is feeling very well. Of course, he is still under the supervision of the vets, waiting for a full recovery!
