People put sticks at the graveside of dog who died 100 years ago
When a pet dies, it can be relieving to visit their grave to pay respects. But one dog’s very special burial site has become a favorite spot of local dog lovers in the area, drawn to his unique grave.
Most pets are buried with a simple tombstone with their name. But a dog named Rex, buried at Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery over 100 years ago, has his own bronze statue!
It’s obvious Rex was very much loved and meant a lot to his owner. He is believed to have belonged to a fruit merchant named John E. Stow, who died in 1884.
His grave still gets plenty of love from visitors. People go to memorialize their own deceased pets.
An affecting tradition has been established at Rex’s statue: people drop sticks across his little paws. They sometimes leave a pic of their dogs who passed away.

There is also a statue in the neighborhood where people leave toys instead of sticks.
