Man and dog return home, after 7-year walk around the world
Everyone wants to see the world, but not everyone can make that wish come true. Tom Turcich wanted to see the world, but realized his resources were limited, so he decided to do it the good old-fashioned way — on foot!
He learned a lot in his travels, including how to take care of another living creature when he adopted a puppy in Texas!

Tom Turchich realized he wanted to do something different with his life when he was very young. When he was 17 years old, he lost his girlfriend Ann Marie. It made Turchich realize how fleeting life is and how no one is promised old age.
It was then that he refocused and decided to «seize the day» to make the most of his life on earth. The New Jersey native decided to make it a point to travel all over the earth before he passed away.

As a young man, he began looking for ways to travel around the world on a budget and came across Steve Newman and Carl Bushby. He saw that it was quite possible to go around the world on foot.
Turchich says he liked the idea because walking around gives you a sense of intimacy. It makes you get to know places better.
But it took him years to save up enough money and pay off his loans to make the trip. But at 26, he was ready to get started.

Turchich is not the first person to travel around the world, in fact, he is the tenth person in modern history to do so. However, his dog Savannah made history as the first dog to circumnavigate the world!
He got Savannah in Texas when he was 4 months old before he started hiking, and the duo have been absolutely inseparable ever since.
It took him seven years to get around the world on foot, and now, at age 33, he’s coming home with his dog.
Turchich and his faithful sidekick Savannah have amassed a huge following on social media. They religiously documented their travels on their Instagram page and on a website called «Around the World.»

«It’s been seven years of walking, 28,000 miles and 38 countries. I’ve changed a lot. I can’t even imagine who I was then. It’s so far from who I am now,» he says.
The first 2 years of his travels were paid for mostly from his savings, but the last 5 years have been made possible by major sponsors and individual donors.
Turchich says he’s encountered plenty of kindness everywhere he’s been and has only encountered a few unpleasant situations.
As for his future plans, the 33-year-old says he intends to write a book about all the adventures he has had in the last seven years of his life wandering the planet.

His loyal dog Savannah is also going to retire at the age of seven and enjoy a peaceful existence with his master.
