Heroic vets save a baby giraffe in Kenya

There are kind people willing to do anything for the sake of nature. But rescuing a wild baby animal is usually an quite difficult task. But these heroes were willing to do everything they were able to save the life of a baby giraffe. Their cunning plan luckily succeeded!

Shortly after he received a call about an orphaned baby giraffe in a dire need of help, ranger Bernard gathered his team of vets and hurried to save the poor thing. They are responsible for every wild animal in need in Kenya’s Meru National Park.

This time, the baby giraffe suffered a back injury, so Bernard knew the rescue would be very difficult. The animal had to be transported to Nairobi to increase its chances of survival. Because of the nature of his injury, he had to be in a sitting position. But a plane was the best option, since it would have taken almost eight hours to get there by car.

Amazingly, the patient was extremely calm and relaxed during the trip, as if he knew all about the risks involved in the rescue. Of course, Bernard played his part by comforting the friendly animal along the way. Imagine how hard it is to comfort such a small animal who has just lost his mother!

Thanks to these vets, the baby giraffe made it safely to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a shelter where babies of elephants, rhinos and even giraffes find the love and comfort they never had. Such was the case with this rescued baby giraffe. KIKO — that’s his name — will stay here until he is fully recovered and ready to return to the wild. But so far all is going well, as KIKO has proven to be a very friendly and loving resident of the shelter!
