For six months now, this elderly man has been coming to the shelter to sleep in a hug with cats
ik About 6 months ago, an elderly man named Terry first came to the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
After that, he came here the next day with a special brush to help scratch cats. And then he began to come to the cats every day.
The shelter positions itself as a place where cats are not put to sleep if they do not find owners and do not keep them in cages. At the same time, the shelter often saves animals with disabilities, that is, disabled people. That’s exactly what attracted Terry. He really wanted to help cats that no one took to his home.
«Terry just came to us once, introduced himself and said he wanted to offer his free help in caring for cats,» says Elizabeth Feldhausen, founder of Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, «Then he began to come to us every day.»
Terry loves animals very much, but he especially likes to lie on the couch and take a nap with one or two cats lying in his feet or arms. Terry also has a special gift, with his affection and gentle treatment he can calm even the most nervous cat.
«He takes care of cats, combs them and can talk about what sympathies and antipathies a particular cat has. And of course, he very often likes to lie down with cats on the couch. We have nothing against it, because cats really like lying next to him.»
Now Terry is recognized as an official volunteer of the shelter and he has not missed a single day since he first came here six months ago.
«Terry doesn’t sleep long, and when he wakes up, he continues to comb the cats. By the way, he has a special favorite, a cat named Buckhorn.»
When recently pictures with Terry and cats were posted in the social accounts of the shelter, many Internet users liked Terry very much. Some called him «cat’s grandfather» and even wrote poems about him. Terry himself feels a little surprised by such popularity, but he likes the nickname Cat Grandpa.
