Farmer discovers newborn calf freezing in the snow — and he saved his life with a very interesting solution
Like humans, many animals are vulnerable to the dangers of the cold weather. They can feel things like freeze, that’s why it’s always encouraging when people do their best to keep them warm.
Like one farmer, who saved a freezing baby cow’s life with a very surprizing solution.
Dean Gangwer is a farmer in Rossville, Indiana. One day in 2015, he found an unticipated new addition to his farm.
One of his cows delivered a baby calf without him realizing in the middle of the night. Unluckily, she did it onto a pile of snow, and the calf was now freezing.
The newborn was barely breathing and unable to keep his eyes open. He got the cow to his home in order to save its life.
He knew the baby needed a hot bath. He jumped in fully dressed, held the calf up so he didn’t drown, and him and Dean had a nice bath for an hour.
Then the farmer wrapped his calf in warm heated blankets.
He named the newborn Leroy. Soon, the calf’s body temperature returned to normal, and he was ready to join the herd.
It was a kind and quick-thinking idea to save this little cow’s life, but this farmer says sharing his hot tub with the cows shouldn’t be a regular thing.
