Elephant couple was rescued after being slaves for 80 years

In Thailand, an elephant couple, Bunme and Buabaan, had spent bulk of their lives in the forestry and elephant trekking industry, where they were forced to work until they were worn out.

Eventually, they were released to Chiang Mai Elephant Nature Park after 80 years of slavery.

Bunme, 80, and Boaban, 50, now spend most of their time splashing, playing and eating their favourite food in their new backyard, which has a river and a dirt bath.

Christian LeBlanc, a 23-year-old YouTube blogger from Canada, helped with the rescue. He was instrumental in fundraising.

The adorable animals couldn’t be happier. They have a new friend named Baicha.

«But before we released them, they were riding dozens of people on their backs every day.»

«It got to the point where Boonmee fell and had to be lifted with a crane so she could get back to their work. So we realized we had to do smething.»

This rescue operatiom is a part of Christian’s documentary, «Black Tusk.»

Just like humans, elephants are social, and so they show great suffering when they are traeted cruelly.
