Dolphins help rescuers to find a missing swimmer in Ireland
It’s a well- known fact that dolphins are extremely intelligent mammals and also quite helpful to humans in open seas and oceans.
The recent case faced by rescuers proves this theory once again.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) of Ireland has received a call about a missing swimmer, who has not been seen for as long as twelve hours.
Rescuers did not hope to find him alive after so many hours of missing, when they got an unexpected assistance by… a pod of dolphins! Factually the dolphins have saved the life of a missing man by alerting the rescuers about his location, which was unbelievable. A small group of bottlenose dolphins have encircled the man and alerted the rescuers by their unusual activity about his location.
The man was eventually located and further transported to Fenit Harbour in a lifeboat. He was further taken to hospital after receiving first aid by rescuers where he was diagnosed as “hypothermic and exhausted”.
The “brave” swimmer, who did not name himself, told later that his intention was to swim to a small rocky island, five miles off the beach. Luckily he left his clothes at the beach before swimming, that was further noticed by locals, who have called the authorities for help.
His health is now reportedly improving. This subspecies of dolphins was spotted near the Irish coast since 2019, according to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group research data.
The rescue crew claims that the swimmer was lucky enough to be alerted by dolphins. Otherwise he would have extremely low chances of surviving in open seas.
