Dog gives birth in the back of a car after being rescued
Rebecca Lynch was spending her vacation with her husband in Savannah, Georgia, when she made an unplanned stop before returning home. Most people buy souvenirs, but Lynch chose to take something more useful with her. She knew there were many shelters in Georgia where many dogs were euthanized. She decided to save the neediest dog in the shelter before she went home.
Lynch learned about Lizzie, a terrier who was at risk of being put to sleep, from a friend who lived in the same neighborhood. Someone had abandoned pregnant Lizzie in an animal shelter.
To make the trip to Florida more comfortable for the stray dog, the couple put a bed and blanket in the backseat. Lynch snuggled up next to Lizzie and gently stroked her while her husband was driving.
The dog was nervous and frightened. After an hour, Lizzie relaxed and rubbed her head on Rebecca’s hand while she was stroking her. When she felt safe, she decided it was time. She started panting and writhing. She was going into labor! It only took Lizzie 20 minutes to give birth to her first puppy.
They took the dog to the vet right away, and they said everything was great. Lizzie gave birth to another puppies. The dog and her six pups will spend a few days at the vet and then return to Lynch, where they will be sheltered until they are ready to find their new homes
Lizzie knows she is lucky and shows her rescuers that she is grateful for this second chance.
