Dog adopts orphaned baby possums

A dog in Brazil adopted a litter of possums after their mother was killed by a dog. Luckily Stephanie Maldonado found the cubs in time and took care of them with her dog Petrinha.

Stephanie first contacted a wildlife rescue group to take in the babies who had not yet opened their eyes; however, the rescue center could not accept them, so the woman took over the care of them.

The babies had to be fed every 2 hours because they were so small and had not yet opened their eyes.

Stephanie was concerned about their ability to develop without a mother to watch over them. Petrinha came to the rescue at just that moment.

From that moment on, the dog began caring for the possum offspring as if they were her own.

«Pretinha, my four-legged daughter, feeds and warms the baby possum cubs. It’s a joy to watch her being affectionate with them, constantly licking and cuddling them!»

Petrinha did her best to help the cubs survive, even though she was spayed and unable to produce milk to feed them.

The tiny dog was so supportive of them that she allowed them to climb on her back as they walked, just as a mother possum would do in the wild.
