At night the family woke up to a cat chorus in the room. But… they didn’t have cats!
It was the middle of the night. The Miller family was fast asleep and about to have their tenth nap, when Janette was disturbed by her daughter. She woke up her mother with a loud whisper: «Mom, there’s someone in the house! I think it’s a cat meowing…»
At first Jeanette thought her daughter was joking or dreaming. Soon, however, she, too, distinctly heard a thin cat meow — and more than one!
The woman got up and walked around the house — the sound was coming from the basement room where the couch was and the belongings were stored (the family rented the house from their acquaintances).
Entering the room, Janette was stunned: right on the couch comfortably settled a whole group of furry tails several days old! One … two … five … as many as seven pairs of small, barely seen the world, the eyes stared at the stranger: Why are you here?
They didn’t stay still for long, though. The two toddlers quickly crawled off the bed to the floor and made a clumsy attempt to approach.
Janette loves cats, of course, but she wasn’t too happy about the neighborhood. The owners of the house were against keeping animals there, so the kittens had to be rehomed immediately!
Waiting until morning, the family gathered the kittens into a box and took them to the veterinarian. There, the kittens received their first ever care and feeding, but they needed constant supervision around the clock!
So they called Kitty Kitty Rescue. They told the volunteers their unusual story, specifying that they had never seen a mother cat near their home, except once — but that was a long time ago. The animal advocates agreed to take in the foundlings, and the Millers got ready to hit the road.
But by the time they got to the shelter, Janette had to feed the kittens herself several times — just as the vet suggested. «It was the best 12 hours of my life,» the woman laughs. — As soon as I finished feeding the seventh kitty, the first two were already hungry again…»
How did the cat get into the house, though? People examined all the walls and corners — and in one place they found a small hole to the outside! With its help, the cat has apparently decided to introduce its brood to the good people. But she suddenly disappeared…
The kittens were taken care of by the founder of the animal protection group, a girl named Jennifer Gallispie. «The kittens are very affectionate and they purr all the time,» she says. — But I have to bathe them all the time because I don’t know how to lick them like a mother. But they like the bathtub and the terry blankets I wrap them in even more…».
When the foundlings grow up and turn into beautiful young cats and cats, they will surely go to their new homes. Then they won’t have to hide in the basement room, because they’ll have every right to lie on the couch right in the middle of the living room!
