Dogs, just like humans, may have severe health issues which can shorten their life radically.

A little doggy called Pipsqueak, a Yorkshire Terrier started her life in a puppy mill. She was saved by police forces during one of the raids, she was given to a foster family, but they had to hand her out due to circumstances.

Luckily for Pipsqueak, another woman Kelsey showed up and volunteered to take her in. «She called me and said we have this special needs little dog and no one to take her,» Kelsey remembers.

But, from the beginning, she was warned that the puppy didn’t have much time to live since she had numerous health issues.
«The smaller the dog, the more money they raise,» Kelsey explained. «So they tend to breed the runts with the runts.» Based on the information on her website, she has hydrocephalus, a liver shunt, spine and neck issues, and jaw problems, which lead to the loss of all her teeth.

This explains why Pipsqueak is so tiny. She is only 1.8 pounds in weight, and her size is the same as the guinea pig.
Kelsey made up her mind to make sure that the dog had everything she needed to feel comfortable and save for the rest of her short life. Yet, the amount of love she received helped her fight the odds.

Time passed, and the family realized that Pipsqueak had a long life ahead of her despite her health issues.
«From the beginning, she was such a fighter,» Kelsey told GeoBeats. «She never gives up. Even when she doesn’t feel good, even when she’s tired, she keeps going.»

Soon the couple opened the doors of their welcoming home to other dogs with special needs. They have adopted six more puppies, all of which have the same size as Pipsqueak.

Pipsqueak also has one unique feature she doesn’t bark she quacks. But what outstands the most is that she now serves as a therapy dog in a nonprofit organization named Paws & Think.

Due to her age, she is slowing down gradually. We never thought we’d get this much time with her, so we want to remember every moment,» she said.

«Every single day, she inspires me.»
