The couple was driving when they saw a package left on the road

Wade Shepp and his wife Mandy were driving home on Sunday from a church in Princeton, Texas, when they saw something that made them hit the brakes.

«We were slowly driving along a country road, I looked around and suddenly  saw a small dog’s head on the side of the road. Usually, when you see dogs in the countryside by the road, they are farm dogs that are crossing the road or preparing to do so.  And here the dog was just sitting motionless in what looked like a bag. It didn’t make any sense, I thought», said Wade.

Wade and Mandy are very fond of dogs and they knew the dog was in trouble. They stopped the car and went outside. The reality was depressing. This little dog, which looked like a dachshund mix, was tied with a rope and then stuffed into a paper bag with food, so that only its head was sticking out of the hole.

“It was definitely done on purpose by some very bad person. The dog couldn’t get out on its own. Even we had to work hard to get it out of this bag, for which we used the car keys to break the bag.”

The dog, that was given the nickname Bubba, acted timidly and Wade believes that she was very scared, as she constantly trembled and flinched at every movement of people. According to Wade and Mandy, she was in this package for at least 5-6 hours, maybe more. During this time, many cars must have passed by her, but only they have stopped.

«She sat there for a long time. There was urine and feces in the bag and the poor dog was sitting in it all.»

The Shepps took the dog home with them and gave him a  warm bath. While washing, Bubba finally began to gradually come to her senses.

«I think she understands that we saved her,» Wade says.

The next day, the couple took the dog to the vet and there they were in for another unpleasant surprise. It turned out that earlier someone shot this baby with a pistol and wounded her in the front paw. There were bullet marks on the paw. During washing, the wound was not noticed, since it was at the junction of the paw with the body and had already begun to heal a little.

Wade suggests that someone wanted to shoot the dog first, and when they missed, they put it in a bag and threw it on the side of the road.

The local dog rescue group «Dallas DogRRR» found out about Bubba and offered to take her to their shelter, but as the couple got attached to Bubba they decided to keep the dog until she fully recovered.
