A man picks up abandoned animals and gives them home
Steve Great deserves a title of a hero — he is a man with a big heart.
He devoted his life to helping cats and dogs that were abandoned by their owners for whatever reason – be that illness, age or any other issue. He now homes ten dogs, one pig, two ducks, pigeons and cats.
Steve’s story began with a tragedy: his dog died and he went to a local animal shelter after some time to adopt a new dog. There he saw an old dog, who was looking very upset and confused. A few days ago his owners decided that he was too old and brought him to the shelter, while others also did not want to take him because of his age.
Steve could not pass by and took Grandpa, that’s how he named him, to his house.
He decided that the dog, who devoted his whole life to people, deserves a good retirement, a warm home, soft bed, delicious food and human love.
“I took him home — a dog with heart murmurs and sore joints, which was no longer needed by anyone. And that turned out to be just the beginning.”
From that day on, Steve was thinking about many aging pets, who were left by their owners just because they grew old. So he went back to the pet shelter, again. In addition to dogs, he adopted a pig abandoned by owners, named Bikini and a dove Ellie, a chicken, a turkey and a few rabbits.
He also managed to find loving homes for several pets with disabilities!
Now Steve’s day starts at 5 am — everyone needs to be fed with special food, because all pets require unique care. They’re all old, so they are not naughty any more, they do not play active games and prefer napping over everything.
Every day, they go for a walk with Steve. He carries old pets in a special wheelbarrow and his home is now a shelter for all old buddies out there.
Steve is indeed an animal hero and he hopes that his example will inspire others to adopt elder pets and give them love and warm homes.
