A woman noticed a furry lump on the road and knew what she had to do
Natalie Therese and her partner were driving home from a hotel on the banks of the Columbia River in Washington, D.C., when suddenly through the fog they noticed something that looked like a big ball of wool in the middle of the road.
Therese, frightened, felt that they had to stop.
«I shouted at them to be careful and stop,» said Therese.
As she got closer, she saw them-three otter cubs thrown out into the street.
«My partner thought it was just a lump of dirt or something!» said Therese.
Picking up the pieces, Therese realized that she had seen a mother otter running away from an oncoming car. The children, too young to know what to do, just hid in the street. Now they were all alone, and their terrified mother was watching them from the nearby forest.
Therese decided that she would help them return to a safe place, and began to guide the trembling babies in the right direction.
«I gently persuaded them to get out of the way,» says Therese.
Therese stood by, guiding them to their mother, and waited for each of them to figure out what to do.
«I was standing by the car and waiting for the mother to get out and all three children to run off the road together,» Therese said. «Then I waited a few more minutes to make sure they didn’t run back out onto the road.»

Therese had a big impact on the future of the Otter family that day, and they had an equally big impact on her.
«I was so touched and moved to tears by the whole event,» says Therese. «Nature and its creations are simply beautiful.»
