A homeless man who became a millionaire shared his story
Although Khalil Rafati, now 46, is the owner of a multi-million dollar company, few people know that he was homeless and struggled with drug addiction in the past.
The self-made billionaire tells his story of living a life of poverty 13 years ago in his book “I Forgot to Leave”. He talks about how he managed to change his life and achieve success.
According to Khalil, at that time he barely weighed 48 kg and was feeling hopeless.
“For the first time in my life, I took full responsibility for everything that happened to me. That’s when I made a deal with God that I would never feel like that again.»
Luckily for him, a friend who was worried about him encouraged him to make positive changes in his life and start a new chapter by starting a juice company.
He started making juices for the people at the Riviera Rehab Center and its staff, and thanks to the help he received from this organization, he was able to get his health back on track.
After another five years, Khalil had built a positive reputation in the Hollywood area, prompting him to open his own juice bar chain and call it SunLife Organics Juice Bars.
His consumers loved his juice bar, and as a result, his company expanded its drinks range to include smoothies, coffee and frozen yogurt. In addition to offering a variety of nutritious drinks, the chain’s establishments are also very popular among famous people.
Anthony Kides — vocalist and lyricist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and actor David Duchovny often visit his cafes.
Now Khalil is an inspiration not only for start-up entrepreneurs who want to become a businessmen like him, but also for his employees, many of whom suffer the same way he did when he was younger.
So he has some words of wisdom to share with those who want to make positive changes in their lives through the business world: “Find out your shortcomings and connect yourself with someone who has knowledge and qualities that you don’t.” That should be enough.»
