Mom dolphin mourning her cub’s death

Michael McCartney was canoeing along the coastline near Florida when he saw a silver flash in the water ahead of him. It was a dolphin that seemed to cradle a small body.

At first,  Michael thought that  that the dolphin caught a fish for dinner, but soon a heartbreaking scene unfolded in front of him …

It took about a minute to figure out what was going on. The dolphin mom  was in fact  holding a dead dolphin up waters and cradling him …

Michael grabbed his camera and began filming the sad scene. Mom dolphin buried her nose in her baby, not knowing what to do from grief.

Luckily, she wasn’t alone. Her faithful dolphin friend swam next to the confused mother, trying to calm and protect her friend. And in the north of the coastal channel, other dolphins joined them

It turned out  later that the dolphin was injured in a collision with a motor boat. Most likely, the baby was hooked by a propeller. Michael spent most of his life on the water, so he had already seen this. The young man was filming a video to put it online and notify people about this issue.

Michael urges everyone to be careful, because if dolphins swim fast, this does not mean that they cannot be hit by a boat. It is the  dolphins that are most at risk, as they often swim to the surface.
