Little seal stuck in the rocks poked its head out of a hole to ask for help
Last week, people walking along the beach at St. Mary’s Island in Wheatley Bay, North Tyneside, England, saw this cute newborn seal poking her head out of her hole. At first they thought there was nothing wrong with her and that she was just resting on the rocks. However, it became apparent that she was stuck between the boulders and could not get out.
They quickly alerted the St. Mary’s Marine Guard, and volunteers from the environmental organization rushed to her aid. When the volunteers arrived on the scene, they assumed the seal was stuck trying to get over the rocks.
«Usually when seals get stuck, they manage to get out, but this poor guy was really trapped,» St. Mary’s Seal Watch wrote on Facebook.
The seal cub waited patiently and watched as rescuers and volunteers worked together to try to help him. With experience in similar situations, they were finally able to pull her out of the burrow and carry her to safety.
They covered her face with a cloth to relieve the tension and keep her from biting. «We couldn’t get her out right away, as it could have endangered the seal or ourselves,» the rescuers wrote.
Fortunately, the seal was not injured. The rescuers, in turn, quickly examined her to make sure she was not seriously injured. After everything was OK, they returned her to the water.
«Fortunately, this young one was discovered early and thanks to the presence of volunteers, we were able to rescue her quickly,» the rescuers wrote.
