In 1999, a man was not afraid to come to the help of a herd of wild elephants in South Africa — the animals were considered too unpredictable and even local rangers did not want to approach them.

Lawrence Anthony was an active conservationist. He became famous in the world under the nickname «Elephant Whisperer», as he understood these animals better than others. Therefore, in 1999, he quickly realized that a group of giant elephants, that had fallen into a quagmire would not let a person near them. He was the one who could act at that time.

In those days, the man waited patiently for the elephants to get used to him. He brought them food, and then one by one he led the whole herd out of the swamp into the ground. So then the elephants hurried to go about their business, while Lawrence returned to his job of protecting wildlife.

Over the years, Lawrence got completely weak. He led the lifestyle of a pensioner in a house on the outskirts of the reserve. On one of the last days, the relatives of the pensioner saw a whole herd of elephants at the window — 31 animals walked 12 kilometers and then looked for a home in the reserve for almost two days. Farewell to an old friend continued for the next day. Then the elephants left, this time forever.

Anthony Lawrence’s job is continued by his brother. He dreams of finding those elephants himself that came to the house to say goodbye to the devoted man.
