A blind elephant who has been debilitated and abused for 70 years sheds tears of relief as rescuers bring her to a safe park
All her life, an elephant named Sook Jai has been persecuted by her owners. She endured abuse for about 70 years before she was saved so she could have the rest of her life in peace.
The animal, by the age of 73, was being used for begging in the deserts and even hiking. When she was rescued, it turned out that she had entirely lost her sight and almost completely lost her ability to hear.
Her life is much like that of all elephnats held in captivity: they perform a lot of various jobs throughout their lives, some harder than others and all of them humiliating. Her life has passed through the hands of many people.
When kind rescuers found out about her, they decided to free her from her abuse and move her to the Elephant Nature Park, which would be her new home. But when they came to pick her up, they found that she was in very bad shape with numerous wounds.
She was in very bad condition with numerous wounds on her head and body because she was constantly mistreated.
She seemed very hungry during the trip. After 20 hours of travel, she took her first step into the sanctuary. Sook Jai got off the truck very easily and into her new home.
She felt like she was in her new room, and rescuers saw tears running down the elephant’s face. Now a quiet life awaits her. Although her eyes have faded and her hearing is impaired, we hope that love will be a light in her life.
After decades of being used as a source of labor, Sook Jai has found a place she can call home where she can rest and regain her lost strength. Her lack of sight and hearing hasn’t stopped her from investigating the park, riding in the mud pit and doing the things elephants adore to do. These moments of joy brought satisfaction not only to herself, but to everybody who made the effort to get her to a place where she would be taken care of.
