Despite their reputation as extremely intelligent animals, elephants are not well known for their agility. At least we knew about it! But fresh footage shows that even the largest land mammal on Earth can move fast.

Tourists at Mfuwe Lodge in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, witnessed something incredible and so much fun. An adult elephant carefully climbed over a 5-foot wall to steal some mangoes from a safari lodge. Despite his graceful movements, the giant’s visit did not go unnoticed.

«He just took the most direct route and felt at home,» Ian Salisbury, general manager of Mfuwe Lodge, told the Daily Mail. «The guests were very amused by the idea of a climbing elephant. They were amazed that the elephant decided to climb over such a high wall. He was a stranger to us.
He wanted to explore. He wanted to get to the central area where this big mango tree grows.»

Elephants often visit the trees near the safari resort in search of mangoes, although they usually find another way. It goes without saying that mango season lasts from October to December. So, the unexpected guest arrived a little late!
The appearance of an elephant in the park amused all visitors. He came, stretched, looked around and ate some grass, then turned around strangely and returned the same way, which seemed funny to Ian. The fastest way for him was to climb a high wall.» The behavior of an elephant climbing to such a height is really rare.

This funny incident was miraculously captured on film by Andy Hogg, CEO of Bushcamp, which runs the resort, so we could all enjoy the funny elephant!
