Impressive footage shows a humpback whale sucking two kayakers down its throat and spitting them out
Two California residents planned to see a humpback whale up close, but ended up with much more than they expected. They will always remember the amazing experience, which was only a few feet away from being their worst nightmare!
Julie McSorley and her friend Liz Cottriel were kayaking off Avila Beach when they were just swallowed by the jaws of a humpback whale.
But it happened so fast they didn’t even have time to notice because the huge mammal spit them back out. This incredible moment was captured on camera by one of the women and several other whale watchers.
»I knew it would be pretty close, but then again, I had previously witnessed whales breeding right next to kayaks. My first thought was that it was going to be pretty cool,» said Julia McSorley. But all of a sudden the boat was lifted and we were very suddenly at sea.»
The dramatic video shows two ladies paddling in the bay while the whales are busy feeding. Suddenly, a huge flock of fish comes to the surface in front of them.
Before they knew it, the voracious whale was close enough to swallow the two companions. In a split second, the huge monster pulled them into its jaws and spewed them out.
Fortunately, both ladies were able to climb into their kayaks on their own and quickly swam to shore while other kayakers and paddleboarders came to the rescue. They just couldn’t believe they were still alive after getting on dry land. Fortunately, none of them were hurt. Only the car key had been lost during this terrible accident.
When they got back to the car, Cottril said: «I shook my shirt and a bunch of fish came out of it. We couldn’t believe we were that close, but we were where we shouldn’t have been, so I certainly learned my lesson.»
