After his mother’s rejection the little foal takes refuge in a huge teddy bear

The sweetest relationship developed between a rescued foal and a teddy bear!

Breeze, as his name is, was put up for adoption by his mother shortly after birth. The Mare and Foal Sanctuary in Devon, UK, was informed after a farmer discovered the little Dartmoor pony. The newborn foal was in serious condition when rescuers arrived on the scene. Everyone feared the worst because he was disoriented and dehydrated.

But as soon as he was brought to the shelter, the situation began to improve, as the baby apparently found the solace he so desperately needed. And it came not from his foster mother or from the staff, but from the big teddy bear his caregivers gave him.

«Unfortunately, little Breeze doesn’t have a mom to keep him company,» said Saira Bowden, executive director of the sanctuary. «It was wonderful to see him interacting with his new plush toys and snuggling up to them when he goes to bed. They are great company for him and provide comfort during those short periods when his caregivers are away.»

Apparently, the sanctuary very often gives stuffed toys to orphaned animals. «We always give our orphaned foals a huge plush toy as a companion,» Bowden says. «They’re just like human babies, and it provides them with comfort.» A method that seems to work just fine!

Today, Breeze is doing fine after several key weeks of being given special milk formula and appropriate medication. In addition, his teddy friend is to blame. According to Bowden, he is getting bigger and stronger every day. He recently started playing in the field; he is not afraid of anything and enjoys being outside.
