Man looks after more than 750 unwanted dogs in his shelter
Those who do not appreciate their selfless companionship abandon many animals on the streets. Fortunately, there are people like Sasha Pesic, who has been helping stray dogs.
This man founded a shelter in 2008, which now is a home for 750 dogs.
Pesic’s story started the same year when he was driving home and came across 4 homeless puppies. He couldn’t restrain his desire to save them all and, despite insufficient financial resources, began developing a stratedy to help them.
Sasha founded his shelter, providing a home and for all the animals with the help of 6 volunteers, and he was able to keep it open with donations.
He knows the names of all the animals he cares for, vaccinates, spays and tags them with an identification microchip.
Sasha has rescued nearly 1,200 dogs, over 400 of which have been adopted by people around the world.
He has had problems with the owners of the land on which the shelter is located, who are demanding that he evacuate the premises.
Thousands of people signed a petition when the issue became public, forcing the government to back down, though not permanently.
Sasha is grateful for everybody’s help and believes that the problem of so many left dogs stems from a system that does not seek answers, but instead creates more harm.
Sasha stated,
«Another problem is the foolishness of owners who don’t neuter their pets and abandon them on the street when they are no longer needed.» From ‘I have a baby and I can’t look after my dog’ to ‘I no longer need it.’
He gets no government assistance, and many veterinarians charge inordinate fees because they think he has too much money from donations.
