In the wild, the female elephants always stay with their families for the rest of their lives, but the male elephants often leave in search of a mate.
The purpose of this planned reunion is a program for captive animals, recreate a natural environment, and the opportunity to reunite with each other.
The zoo has closed the elephants’ visits so that they can relax and be closer to each other.
‘This elephant’s arrival in Halle is a big step for the future of elephants husbandry. All elephants should be cared for in this way, in such a normal family structure. This is our main aim for tomorrow!’
