A grateful chipmunk remembers his savior
We want our children to be happy. To bring them joy, some parents buy kiddie pools. It is fun, but it might be hard to bring it all back every time, so adults just leave small pools outside. What could go wrong? Turnes out, according to animal rights activists, these pools are dangerous for small animals like squirrels and chipmunks: they get trapped in there, get hurt, or die. The hero of this story could meet the same sad ending, but, luckily, got saved just in time.
One day, a girl named Chrissy noticed something stirring at the bottom of the kiddie pool. She came closer and found a tiny animal in it. At first, it was not clear who exactly it was. But on closer inspection, Chrissy realized that in front of her was a tiny chipmunk.
The poor animal could not get out of the water trap. The tiny furry ball was so exhausted and shocked that it did not resist when Chrissy lifted it and wrapped it in a soft towel. The chipmunk barely moved, so the worried woman called the local animal welfare service.
The service specialists recommended placing Chippy, as the chipmunk was named, in a safe and warm place — a box covered with a towel. Chrissy was also instructed to give the animal some food and water. The girl could only offer some bird food since she did not have anything more suitable.
The experts assured Chrissy that everything would be fine. They said that the chipmunk was in a state of shock, and soon he would recover. And they were right. After some trembling, Chippy began to move and took a few sips of water. Some time later, he ate.
Chrissy left the box with her new fluffy friend next to the open window so that Chippy could freely leave the temporary shelter and go to his native home — nature. And he did.
But the story did not end there. Chippy decided not to leave Chrissy`s yard.
He dug a small hole near her house, and from time to time he climbs a tree to watch the woman. She firmly believes that Chippy understands that he survived thanks to her.
We are glad that everything ended well and recommend leaving a small ladder if you have a small pool in your yard.
